Supervision for Therapists
I am committed to supporting the development of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapists and helping them embed EFT more and more into their work with clients. I work with therapist's new to EFT as well as those more experienced.
I offer consultative supervision and clinical supervision. Consultative supervision is where a therapist wants occasional specific EFT supervision but continues with a regular supervisor for their overall client work. Clinical supervision is monthly supervision (usually at least 1 1/2 hours per month as per, for example, BACP guidelines); this usually covers the whole of the therapist's client work, including EFT couples work and other individual work.
Sessions can be 1-1, 2-1 or if there are several of you we can have a supervision group.
I currently only work online, usually via Zoom.
While the overall formula for supporting supervisees’ development is essentially the same, what each person needs, in any particular session, varies and so what I offer varies greatly or subtly. This individual and collaborative approach mirrors the way that we work with clients in EFT – having a clear idea of the map but each person and couple making their unique journey.
Supervisees are encouraged to bring brief recordings of sessions for us to listen to and discuss. It is only recordings that can give us a true insight into what happened. I check out what supervisees want from playing a recording and ensure that I offer praise and encouragement of the work as well as exploring areas for growth and development. We might consider: what EFT skills you used and the response to these, a difficult moment and how it might be managed more effectively - perhaps role playing this to build skills and confidence, issues that are coming up for the therapist, the current step and stage the couple are in.
All supervision hours count towards the minimum 8 hours of supervision a therapist needs as part of the criteria for applying for certification as and EFT therapist by ICEEFT.
